Good afternoon,
Scientists assemble! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and the world is all around a brighter place. How could we not be having a marvelous time! For our Science Week children collaborated with the wonderful Fairsnape Class ¾ looking at change and adaptation. We created habitats and a clay creature to celebrate this. Thank you for the extra bits of reuseable materials, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! As children were creating habitats and creatures a big discussion was around the focus. We know tigers have stripes but why? Why do polar bears have a big fur coat? Why do some animals have big sharp teeth and claws? When we thought about why, the adaptation made perfect sense! Then our 3 friends shared even more advanced knowledge with us. We then added these facts to our boxes and/or scripts to share in our science celebration with the whole school. An extremely proud moment to share with you all is every child in Pendle Class is working at phase 3 or higher and the relationship between school and home is crucial to that success. Thank you so much for your continued support with reading and accessing Bug Club. All I can ask is keep it up team! Our number composition focus continued, and children worked hard using ten frames and dice to combine various amounts to equal 10. This could be done in a multitude of ways and children showed a great understanding and level of independence in doing so – bunch of superstars. Children embarked on a minibeast search carefully exploring the environments in our LOI and Millennium for wonderful creatures to find and investigate. Children recorded their findings on whiteboards using their exceptional phonics. We then carefully returned, logs, branches, pots or stones to cover up our not so creepy but definitely crawly friends. Children revisited the Easter Story in R.E and reflected upon it once more. Crucially thinking of our ‘I Wonder’ moments to allow them to voice any key questions and ponder and reflect on the story. This is crucial to allow children to reflect on the story and process events that seem important or confusing with friends and staff. To finish we are trying something a little magical with our library books. On Friday they are going to come home with a library book bag -ohhhh. In this bag will be a book from the library chosen by a friend and a sachet of hot chocolate to make reading with you at home all the more special. A teddy like friend will also be included to really bring that special reading time home for you all. This would mean that every bag would have to be returned by Friday to result in 15 bags getting swapped over. I asked all my lovely children if they could do this and they thought they could, but we need your help! If the books are returned earlier we will keep the story bags on pegs to keep track of them all. We will give it a try this Friday and see how we get on – I believe in you all! Thank you all for a wonderful week and see you all on Monday you incredible people!
With love,
Mr McGill
