What a remarkable few weeks it has been in school. As we move through the spring term, our community has come together in the most inspiring ways—learning, reflecting and growing through experiences that will stay with our pupils for a long time. I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights from Place2Be Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 and our action-packed Safety Week.
Place2Be Children’s Mental Health Week 2026
This year’s national theme encouraged children to explore what it means to feel “grounded” and to recognise the activities, people and places that help them stay balanced. Across the school, pupils immersed themselves in thoughtful and creative sessions focusing on emotional wellbeing.
The theme for this year is ‘This Is My Place’, which focuses on the importance of feeling that you belong.
- Children enjoyed class check-ins where they discussed emotions and how to recognise them in themselves and others.
- Our wellbeing ambassadors led mindfulness sessions, introducing breathing techniques and simple grounding strategies pupils can use any time they feel overwhelmed.
- Creative art activities allowed pupils to express how they feel safe, calm and supported—many chose nature, family, pets, hobbies and friendships as their “anchors.”
It was incredibly moving to see pupils speak openly about mental health and understand that looking after our minds is just as important as looking after our bodies.
Safety Week 2026 – Learning from Real-Life Experts
Hot on the heels of Mental Health Week, we launched our annual Safety Week—and what a week it was! Through hands-on workshops and visits from emergency services, our pupils gained deeper awareness of how to keep themselves and others safe.
A Visit from the Paramedics
Our visiting paramedics were a huge hit. Pupils explored the inside of an ambulance, learned what happens in an emergency callout, and discovered how paramedics stay calm under pressure.
Children practised putting someone into the recovery position and talked about when—and when not—to dial 999. Their confidence grew noticeably as they realised how small actions can make a big difference in an emergency.
Fire Brigade Workshop
The fire brigade brought incredible energy (and a fire engine!) onto the school grounds.
Highlights included:
- Learning about fire safety in the home
- Understanding how smoke alarms work
- Watching firefighters demonstrate their equipment
- Asking brilliant questions about rescue operations
Pupils were fascinated to learn how quickly smoke can fill a room and why having a family fire escape plan is so important.
Electricity Safety Workshop
Our older pupils took part in an engaging and highly practical electricity workshop. They explored how electricity travels, the importance of safe wiring, and what to do if they ever encounter a dangerous electrical situation.
Interactive demonstrations helped pupils understand:
- Why we keep water away from plugs
- How to spot frayed wires
- The risks of overloading sockets
- The science behind circuits and insulation
The workshop perfectly balanced curiosity with essential life lessons.
Sports Success – Into the Lancashire Quarter Finals!
We are incredibly proud of our school football team, who have achieved a fantastic milestone by reaching the quarter finals of the Lancashire Cup. The team have trained with commitment and passion, showing excellent teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship at every stage of the competition.
We’ll be cheering them on as they prepare for the next round—well done to every player and to our dedicated coaching staff!
Academic Achievement – Maths Challenge Success!
A huge well done to our talented Year 6 mathematicians, who took part in the Maths Challenge at Our Lady’s this week and achieved an impressive 3rd place!
The team demonstrated fantastic problem‑solving skills, quick thinking and teamwork throughout the competition. Their enthusiasm for the challenge—and the way they encouraged one another—made us incredibly proud. Congratulations to all involved!
Year 1 and 2 AND Year 3 & 4 Miniskills Achievement
A huge well done to our fantastic Year 3 and 4 pupils, who took part in this year’s Miniskills competition and secured a brilliant 4th place! Our Year 1 and 2 children were amazing in their performance, attitudes and great representation of school-well done.
The children showcased great teamwork, determination and enthusiasm across all the activities. Their positive attitude and encouragement of one another made us incredibly proud. Congratulations to every child who took part and represented the school so beautifully.
National Storytelling Week 2026
We also celebrated National Storytelling Week, which filled classrooms with imagination, laughter and creativity. Pupils enjoyed listening to a range of stories—from traditional tales to modern favourites—and many classes created their own book, where children stepped into the role of storyteller.
The enthusiasm was infectious, and it has set the perfect tone as we look ahead to World Book Day on 5th March, when even more reading adventures await!
Musical memories continue to be made with our newest Year 1 members of band settling in very well. It is amazing to see our children learning new instruments and changing to other instruments as they grow in confidence, filling our school band with tremendous sound. I can't wait for the next concert-well done children!
A Community That Cares
Across both weeks, one message came through loud and clear: our pupils are thoughtful, caring young people with a desire to contribute to a safer, kinder world. The respect they showed to visitors, their insightful questions, and their willingness to learn were a credit to our school community.
Thank you to all staff, parents and visiting professionals who helped make these experiences so memorable. Together, we are building a culture where wellbeing, safety and learning go hand in hand.
