ARMISTICE 2018
St Francis’ is currently involved in an exciting collaborative educational project called “Armistice” and Preston Guildhall has been booked for November 11th 2018 the centenary for the end of “The Great War.”
The project will involve over 500 children and adults from the Longridge School’s Cluster and will tell the story and remember the key events of the conflict through music, dance , drama, poetry and the visual arts. It will culminate with an act of remembrance. We are also wishing to engage the wider community in this project as it was a historical event that touched so many families and communities particularly so in the North of England.
As part of the build-up work, we wish the children to experience a range of different arts and craft based activities, one of which is to knit thousands of poppies 19,240 to be precise which were the number of men who died on the July 1st 1916 the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
We will use the poppies, to create a huge visual display during the act of remembrance, very much inspired by the Poppies at the Tower of London.
We have attached the poppy patterns below
